Thermostat housing 320/04739 JCB, genuine

Genuine JCB thermostat housing 320/04739 for the cooling system of JCB engines; the card also lists 320/04890 and 320/04540. According to suppliers, 320/04890 supersedes the earlier 320/04540 and 320/04739.

The thermostat housing holds the thermostat in place and sends coolant from the engine through the top hose to the radiator. Cracks, corrosion or distortion of the sealing face, a leaking hose joint and coolant loss around the thermostat all call for a new housing. The photos show a flanged housing with two fixing holes and a hose outlet. The housing also comes off whenever the thermostat is changed, so the seal under it is renewed each time.

The housing is listed for JCB 3C, 3CX, 3D, 4C, 4CX and 214–217 machines; compare the shape of the old housing and the hose diameter when selecting. An aftermarket housing of this number is also available. It takes the thermostat 320/04618; cooling parts are in thermostats.

Fitting

With the engine cold, drain the coolant below the housing. Clean off the old gasket, fit the new housing with the thermostat seal and tighten the bolts evenly. After topping up, bleed the system and check the joint for leaks.
