Air-conditioning thermostat 701/57600 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The air-conditioning thermostat measures the evaporator temperature and disengages the compressor's electromagnetic clutch when the core approaches freezing, re-engaging it as the temperature rises. This keeps the evaporator from icing so the air conditioning delivers cold air steadily. A faulty thermostat either never switches the compressor on or keeps it running constantly, so the evaporator ices up; an iced core lets no air through and the cab does not cool. The thermostat usually works from a capillary tube or sensor inserted into the evaporator core and sits in the air-conditioning unit in the cab. It is chosen by part number for the system type, and the position and length of the capillary matter for accurate measurement.

Fitting

Before the change, disconnect the battery negative and open the air-conditioning unit cover. Insert the capillary or sensor into the evaporator core at the same depth and position as the old thermostat's. Connect the wiring and close the cover. Run the air conditioning and check that the compressor cycles on and off and the evaporator does not ice up.
