Coolant expansion tank 332/E9125 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Coolant expansion tank 332/E9125 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The expansion tank takes the extra volume of coolant as it expands with heat and returns it to the system as it cools, so the system always stays full and no air collects. The minimum and maximum marks on the tank make the level easy to check with the engine cold. A plastic tank yellows with heat over time, becomes brittle and cracks, and a leak from a cracked tank can make the engine overheat. The tank cap holds the system pressure, and if it fails the coolant boils and overflows. Also check the colour and clarity of the coolant in the tank: brown or oily coolant indicates corrosion or oil getting into the cooling system. The heat in the engine bay yellows the tank and makes it brittle over time, so when fine cracks appear on its surface the tank is replaced before it starts to leak.

Fitting

Do the change only on a cold engine, as opening a hot system can cause burns. Empty the tank, disconnect its hoses and any sensor plug and remove the mounting bolts. Fit the new tank, connect the hoses with new clamps and fill to the maximum mark. After the engine has been run up to temperature and has cooled again, recheck and top up the level.
