Kingpin bush 045168 Carraro, aftermarket

Kingpin bush 045168 is an aftermarket part for the backhoe loaders with Carraro axles. This bush is the kingpin bush of the steering knuckle.

Axle bushes are used at the pivot where an oscillating axle casing mounts to the chassis; the inner and outer bushes carry the load while letting the axle tilt over uneven ground. Worn bushes let the axle move sideways and fore and aft, cause knocking and reduce steering precision. If the bushes are not greased regularly wear speeds up and the pivot pin is damaged too. The most effective way to delay bush wear is to grease the pivot regularly until the old grease comes out.

Fitting

For the change, raise the machine securely and support the axle. Press out the old bushes with a suitable tool and clean the bores. Press the new bushes in squarely and fully home, fit the pin and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. After assembly, grease the nipples. The bush comes new; before fitting, check that the bore is clean, free of burrs and not oval. A worn pivot pin is replaced too, since it will soon wear a new bush oval. Fit the bush so its grease grooves line up with the grease nipple hole. After assembly, check the axle's full oscillation and that it does not bind.
