Kingpin 130631 Carraro, aftermarket

Kingpin 130631 is an aftermarket part for the backhoe loaders with Carraro axles.

The kingpin is the pin that joins the steering knuckle of a steered axle to the axle housing and about which the knuckle turns. There are usually two, an upper and a lower one, running in tapered bearings or bushes and carrying the machine's weight and the steering forces. A worn kingpin or bearing causes knuckle play, steering wobble, uneven tyre wear and a knock when braking. Kingpins are made of hardened steel with working surfaces precisely machined to suit their bearings.

Fitting

For the change, remove the wheel and support the knuckle. Fit the new kingpin with its bearings and seals, tighten the bolts to the specified torque and set the bearing preload with shims to the service manual. After assembly, grease the nipples and turn the steering fully both ways to check it does not bind. Kingpin play is checked with the machine raised by rocking the wheel up and down and side to side; noticeable play shows wear of the pin or its bearings. Grease the kingpins at every service until clean grease comes out. If the dust seals are damaged, water and sand will soon ruin a new pin and bearings too.
