Front wiper arm 714/40282 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Front wiper arm 714/40282 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. This arm is for the front wiper.

The wiper arm transfers motion from the wiper motor shaft to the blade and presses the blade against the glass with its spring. When the spring weakens, the blade does not press hard enough and the glass is not wiped clean, and when the splines in the hub wear the arm slips on the shaft and the wiped area changes. On construction machines dust and mud make good visibility important for both productivity and safety, and the rear wiper is especially needed for backhoe work. The wiper motor can be overloaded if the arm is jammed, so a frozen or obstructed wiper is not switched on. Together with the arm, the blade must press evenly over the whole wiped area. The arm's spring force is important for even blade pressure, and a weakened spring means replacing the whole arm.

Fitting

With the motor in its park position, open the nut cap of the old arm, remove the nut and pull the arm off the shaft. Fit the new arm so the blade lies parallel to the bottom edge of the glass and tighten the nut. Then run the wiper and check that the wiped area is correct and the arm does not strike the frame.
