Clam control lever, right 128/13818 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Clam control lever, right 128/13818 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. According to the product card, this is the right clam control lever; the card also lists 335/04115.

The control lever is used by the operator to work the backhoe, loader, clam bucket or drive functions. Through the linkage at its lower end it moves the valve spool or drive mechanism, while its knob and spring centring give the operator a positive feel. A bent or cracked lever, or one with play in its pivot, reduces control precision and can upset the neutral position, so the machine may move unintentionally. Levers differ in shape between the loader and backhoe sides and between left and right positions. When the pivot bushes wear, the lever wobbles sideways and control precision drops, so the bushes are renewed when the lever is replaced. If there is a safety lock holding the lever in neutral, check that it works properly too. After the lever is fitted, the linkage pin retainers are put back in place.

Fitting

Before the change, lower the attachments, stop the engine and release the hydraulic pressure. Mark and disconnect the lever's linkages and remove the pivot bolt. Fit the new lever, reconnect the linkages and tighten the pivot bolt to the specified torque. After assembly, check that the lever moves freely in every direction, returns to neutral when released and works its function in the right direction.
