A glass seal is the rubber profile that holds the cab glass in its frame and closes the gap between them. It protects the glass from vibration, keeps water, dust and draughts out of the cab and reduces noise. Sun, temperature changes and age harden and crack the rubber, and a hardened seal holds the glass poorly, leaks in the rain and whistles in the wind. The seal is replaced together with the glass or on its own. When the seal is replaced, the glass edge is checked for chips and cracks too. Water in the cab usually comes from a failed seal rather than the glass itself, so when the floor mat is wet or rust marks appear around the glass, the seals are checked first. Seals wiped regularly with a rubber care product stay soft for longer.
